These Planifolia vanilla pods come from Uganda. They are unsplit, supple, and glossy, and are gourmet quality, offering woody, powdery, and caramelized notes. Ugandan vanilla pairs well with game, shellfish, fish, and lamb.

Vanilla cultivation in Uganda began in the 1950s and really took off in the 1990s. Today, Uganda is the second largest vanilla producer in Africa, after Madagascar. Vanilla is grown naturally on plants supported by trees, usually shade trees like bananas. It is considered one of the most sustainable vanilla varieties in the world. Ugandan farmers have adopted sustainable growing practices to preserve the environment and maintain the quality of their vanilla.
