Volnay Premier Cru Clos des Angles Domaine Rossignol-February 2012

The vintage:

On clay-limestone soil, the plot captures the heat of the sun which it redistributes to the vines at night, giving silkier tannins. This Pinot Noir is aromatic and structured with beautiful fruity aromas that are balanced with incredible spicy notes. The attack, full of finesse and voluptuousness, opens the way to an equally supple and tension-free palate. It can easily be forgotten for six to eight years in the cellar.

As with many wine estates, the history of Nicolas Rossignol's is family. After having traveled in South Africa and learned his lessons at estates in different regions (Joseph Voillot in Volnay, Louis Latour in Ardèche, le Vieux Télégraphe in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and La Cardonne in Bordeaux), Nicolas Rossignol created his own in 1997. He had 3 hectares of vines in the communes of Pernand-Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton, Beaune, Pommard and Volnay. At the same time, he has been making wine at the Rossignol-Jeanniard family estate since 1994. Some may remember: in 2011 the two estates merged and retained the common label “Domaine Nicolas Rossignol”. The years go by and the owner continues to broaden his horizons, acquiring new land to complete his estate which today covers some 17 hectares.
