Lampong black pepper is harvested at the southern tip of the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. This exquisite pepper is grown in the province of Lampong, surrounded by the Java Sea and the Indian Ocean. Legend has it that the first Lampong peppers were brought to the island by Indian traders over ten centuries ago. If you're looking for a powerful and flavorful pepper, look no further: Lampong pepper offers a unique combination of woody notes and intense spiciness.
Its peppery spiciness hits the palate with a warm, piquant intensity. For optimal flavor, it is recommended to grind it coarsely in a mortar just before serving, thus releasing notes of menthol and exotic wood.
In cooking, Lampong pepper is the perfect accompaniment to braised beef, sautéed mushrooms or delicate fish served with garden potatoes.
