Champagne Philipponnat Cuvée 1522 extra brut rosé 2012 and its case - 75cl
The 1522 Rosé 2012 vintage produced by Maison Philipponnat is a great champagne highlighting the fruity and spicy character of the Aÿ terroir. Indeed, this vintage is built around the terroir of Aÿ, a village in which the Philipponnat family took root in 1522.
This blended rosé is composed of 62% Pinot Noir from the “Léon” vineyard of Aÿ and Mailly and 27% Chardonnay from Verzy, to which were added 11% Pinot Noir vinified in red, from the vineyards of the House located in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.
The year 2012 was characterized by a rainy spring and a gloomy start to summer. But from mid-August, summer set in in Champagne bringing very dry weather and hot temperatures until the end of the harvest. The yield from the 2012 harvest was relatively modest, thus contributing to concentrated wines.
The wines are vinified partially in oak barrels in order to provide a beautiful patina and without malolactic fermentation with the aim of preserving all its freshness and allowing it to gain in complexity. It is a champagne dosed in Extra Brut at 4.25 g/L in order to retain this characteristic little tangy touch.
This vintage has a pale pink, slightly coppery and shiny color.
The nose is very intense and sweet, expressing notes of pastry, milk chocolate, white chocolate, almond paste and kirsch.
The palate is delicious and very fruity, with notes of red fruits and strawberry soup. The finish is fresh with a very nice minerality and pleasant notes of mandarin.
This 1522 Rosé 2012 vintage from Philipponnat will enhance lamb cooked at low temperature but also seafood and particularly shellfish thanks to its mineral and fruity character. It will also go perfectly with strawberries and raspberries for dessert.
